BASE INFORMATION

Located near Te Kao, Onepu road, in the rohe of Te Aupouri. On edge of Te Arai Reserve in Te Aupouri ownership.

4.9ha, 2m deep
 Catchment: pine plantation & scrub to the west, remainder surrounded by pasture
 There is no outflow, inflow to north drains 2kmm of pines, native forest and pasture
 Fenced on the east side, rest open, easy stock access

ECOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE 

Minimal submerged, emergent and riparian vegetation
 Common water birds present, historical records of dabchick

STATUS

 Nutrient enriched from cattle access
 Sparse marginal vegetation
 Sparse submerged vegetation
 Indigenous snail present

 Adjoining forestry operation (Te Hiku Forest – Summit)
