Writer's picture: DUNE LAKE ADMIN DUNE LAKE ADMIN

It was that time again where we all came together to celebrate the beginning of SPRING. NgaiTakoto Dune Lakes Team with support from Department of Conservation had our local

Kura including Te Rangi Aniwaniwa, Awanui School and Te Kura o Tūtūtaraki with Kaumatua and Kuia, Tuia Maara Whenua Roopū Rongoā, Te Aho Tū Roa all joined together in a walk around Lake Ngatu, carried out various workshops including rongoa & weaving and kayaking to enjoy the beauty and unique ecosystems that the Dune Lakes provide.

DOC also provided some wonderful korero on all the endangered species that are around the lake and the Dune Lakes team shared korero on the unique and special ecosystems are at the lake and what the project is trying to achieve. It was a great opportunity for our Dune Lakes team to inform the wider community about the Iwi Dune Lakes Restoration Project and the Freshwater Improvement Funded project that they are involved in.

Wonderful weather, great turn out and lots of fun..... we couldn't have asked for more.
